Herbs & Flowers

I wonder what the flower seeds must be thinking while they are waiting to bloom in the spring? I wonder what the bulbs must do while they wait to spout in the fall? Scientifically, several things are happening underground and out of sight in the plant and flower world while the rest of us go on about our business. For example:

~ The seed has to literally die before it can produce what has been inside of it all along. The outer part falls away to reveal to beauty to come.

~ All the elements align: sunshine, rain, and the soil, to yield what the seed has been prepared for.

~ Then it happens! Up from the ground, the dead seed comes alive and begins to show the world what it was made for!

Just as the flowers in the ground wait for the season’s change to rise up and bloom, so we must wait to enjoy the work of our hands. If you know what I mean, you know it is worth the wait.

Over the North American continent, most are experiencing hot summer days, but herbs and flowers with the right ‘formula’ flourish and display beauty for us, for butterflies, and for birds!

Next week I am off with a group to Guatemala, and excited to see what blooms in that country. The warmer climate and rainy season they are in right now should showcase a variety of plants. Look for some pictures in next month’s post from that trip and conversations with the locals about what they grow and why. Oh, and we hope to visit a coffee plantation!

Here are 20 of the most common plants grown in the South American continent in the country of Guatemala.

Leave me a comment or question if you are curious about my travels. Also, look for our product line, www.themaxbit.com to go on sale for the month of August.

Meanwhile, stay cool and hydrated!
