Winter Flowers

I know it is December and just days away from the first day of winter, but I hope you will indulge me to inform you of what the weather does on the beach and invite you to come and see it. Just recently I call the beach home, but it has been in my heart for a long time.

Let’s talk about the flora and the fauna here at the beach. You would think nothing can grow in the sand near salty water, yet, contrary! The coastal areas of the world exhibit a beauty of their own. Sand dunes acquire a permanent address due to the beach grass that keeps them in one place. The sandy beach vines grow randomly, leaving no pattern to follow, yet allow a hiding place for creatures otherwise eaten by the variety of birds that dot the beach.

Watching pelicans fly in formation over the ocean is a sight to see. An even better experience comes when they nose dive in the water to return with a fish in their bills. Magnificent birds. You can watch a pod of dolphins, a school of fish jump out of the water out of nowhere, and sea turtles hatching, all while taking a walk on the beach.

Now the weather forecast. Well, here on the southern coast there is this thing called the ‘gulf effect’ so the weather is almost always affected by the wind coming from the ocean. It is great because it will look like rain, then the gulf effect comes in and chases the rain away. That means more time on the beach.

Here is a great article about beaches in the south. Enjoy and come and visit us! We plant vegetable and flower gardens. The MaxBit loves the local gardeners at the beach!

Curious about more flora and fauna at the beach? You will enjoy this article.

Until next month, remember, the matters of the heart are the heart of the matter.
