The Open Window

Well, August is here. It is still hot in many places in the earth. Your garden is just about finished producing. You can relax just a bit before the children go back to school. And look forward to the fall. I for one, do not like to rush the seasons but to enjoy each day. Every day is a gift. Anyone who has recovered from a potentially terminal disease knows and values the gift of life.

I found a good article by Allen Jenkins from The Guardian, a UK organization that has been around a long time. In the garden section learn how to enjoy your garden and relax as August arrives.

If you are in a cooler part of the planet and your garden continues to grow, here are some things you can do in the cool hours of the morning in August.

Another long time US magazine, Good Housekeeping offers some quick August gardening tips, because as we have said August is hot in the northern hemisphere.

While the world swirls, we tend to miss the everyday happy moments given to us. I encourage you to take a minute or more out of everyday and look around. I set my clock for 5:30 and almost every morning the sun makes a stellar curtain rising just for me. The cool of the morning yields special moments. Unlike the rest of the day that honks and demands our time and attention.

Take a close look at the photo. Do you see the lantern above the door? What number is on the door? How is the wisteria vine kept away from the door? Do you wonder who lives there?

Happy August! Until next month, remember, the heart of the matter is the matter of the heart.

Dr. Michele
